The Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining the financial integrity and compliance of the organization. This position is responsible for managing daily accounting operations, generating accurate financial reports, ensuring adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, supporting audit and budgeting processes, and providing financial insights to leadership. Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee all general ledger activities, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and grant reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB, 2 CFR 200, etc.).
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll allocations, and expense reimbursements.
Monitor grant expenditures and assist with the preparation of funder reports.
Support annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation, coordinating directly with external auditors.
Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting process; monitor budget-to-actual performance.
Reconcile bank and investment accounts on a monthly basis.
Maintain accurate financial documentation and uphold internal controls.
Provide financial analysis and support to program managers and senior leadership.
Supervise or mentor junior accounting staff, if applicable.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the nonprofit sector.
Strong knowledge of fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds.
Experience with grant monitoring and compliance.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud).
Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial data.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
